FREMONT, CA (November, 1996) - Flat Connections is announcing that Maithean, Inc. will provide its NetPay software as the first electronic commerce application available with Sumba, the embedded network for communications.

NetPay is an integrated bill presentment and payment application suite that provides an open standards based solution for the secure transmission of financial transactions between consumers, merchants and financial institutions on the Internet. It is fully compliant with the Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) standard defined by VISA and MasterCard for credit card payments over the Internet. The NetPay suite includes NetPay Wallet, NetPay Merchant, and NetPay Gateway.

Sumba is an embedded network computer that provides individuals and corporations with information processing functions at the point of connection to the Internet. Sumba’s strong encryption, powerful firewall, secure e-mail and real-time virus checking functions, combined with NetPay, will provide secure financial transactions over the Internet.

Sumba includes Java processor based software that splits the security and anti-virus processing tasks between the PCs CPU and the Java Processor. It also includes the Java Virtual Machine, standard Java APIs and complies with Microsoft Corporation’s Cryptographic (CAPI 2.0) API. Strong encryption is provided using the BSAFE algorithms from RSA. Sumba supports users key lengths of us to 1024 bits. Sumba’s coprocessor speeds the intensive work required to implement cryptographic algorithms such as Public Key Cryptography Standards (PKCS) with long key lengths.
