Maithean and Innovonics have teamed up to develop a unique solution that supports home based secure electronic commerce as well as traditional merchant based point-of-sale. The companies have integrated Innovonics' patented PC Pay system with Maithean's NetPay Payment System.
The PC Pay system is a smart card reader, magnetic stripe reader and encryption PIN pad that connects to a personal computer. The PC Pay system includes interface software that allows easy integration of PC-based applications to the card reader on a variety of operating system platforms including, DOS, Win3.1x and Windows 95. The device connects conveniently in-line between the keyboard and PC keyboard input. The user does not have to open the computer or take up ports needed for other peripherals.
NetPay is a secure electronic commerce system for consumer-to-business and business-to-business transactions. NetPay supports SET, the Secure Electronic Transaction protocol defined by VISA® and MasterCard® as well as non-SET based secure credit card transactions; electronic bill presentment, payment and management; home banking; and EDI. The system consists of the NetPay Wallet™, an electronic wallet application for consumers; the NetPay Merchant™, a client-server based payment management system for merchants; and the NetPay Gateway™, a client-server based payment system interface for credit card processors. NetPay clients support public key based hardware token systems for enhanced security, portability, and ease of use and management.
Through the use of its integrated magnetic stripe, smartcard reader and pin-pad, the NetPay/PC Pay system supports a unique array of secure electronic commerce applications as well as enhanced convenience and security features. In a home environment, the system can function as a home based ATM machine or SET based electronic wallet. In a traditional point-of-sale environment, the system can be used with existing magnetic stripe based credit and debit cards as well as smartcards. The system also provides extended functionality in unattended kiosk environments.

The same card reader can also read and write to industry standard smartcards for the secure generation, storage and management of SET keys and certificates."
